The Writing is on the Wall

Some painting done by students at my old school. This area is next to where they sell you lunch.

This is one of the courtyards from where I went to Secondary (High) School in Loganlea.

We had many buildings all separated by covered walkways that mainly had specific uses. One of the buildings was for science, one was for english etc.

Our school system is Kindergarden, Prep. for 1 year (Starts in 2007 & used to be Pre-school), Primary School (7 years), Secondary School (or High School, 5 years) & University or T.A.F.E. (Technical And Further Education).

Spider Web

It took awhile to capture this spider web (pardon the pun) as it was moving and the camera didn't want to focus on it. However, patience paid off.

More local art

This artwork is in the central courtyard of Griffith University.

It has a lot of those half balls that spin in the wind to measure wind speed, although these aren't connected to any measuring device.

I like the way it is made into a tree where wind would usually blow through leaves and create a nice effect, just like when the wind devices spin around.

Local Art

I don't know what it means, but this is some artwork at Sturdee Park, Loganlea.

This is a RAINBOW LORIKEET (Trichoglossus haematodus moluccanus).

The Rainbow Lorikeet is widely distributed along the coastal strip from Cape York south to Victoria and into South Australia. It is often abundant from Sydney northwards, but is becoming rarer south of Sydney.

Logan at night - three of three (for Anne)

This is the other water tower lit up with Logan City Council's symbol. This is the tower posted on Monday April 17 lit up.

Logan at night - two of three

This is a water-tower in Hillcrest that lights up every night. The lights that look like dots alternate flashing.

Logan at night - one of three

Several of the bridges in Logan have been lit up in the city colours, yellow and blue.

I will have to find my tripod as this was the best photo out of many.

Only the strong survive

This is a tree at Griffith University, Logan Campus.

A new tree has grown over the old tree and killed it off.

Big Things

I still haven't gone to the Sunshine Coast yet to get the Big Lawnmower, so I thought I would look around for some of the local "big" things.

This is Golf World Superstore at Springwood just off Moss Street. Moss street is popular for all the car (and bike) enthusists as most of the long street has shops devoted to them.

I think even Tiger Woods would be hitting a par 100 using this ball, if you could even get it in the hole.

Upgrade of common place

This is the Jacaranda Ridge Water tower.

A few years ago the logan symbol was added and at night the whole tower is lit up.

I will post a photo of the tower lit up later.

Easter tradition

Ever since I was young, I would always get a Humpty Dumpty Easter egg every year.

This year, as my mum is away in England, she left me an extra big Humpty Dumpty Easter egg.

I hope everyone is safe and happy this Easter - Happy Easter.

Art is everywhere

I spotted this artwork as I walked through the campus of Griffith University. I don't know what it represents although it looks like two leaves with a flower in the middle.

A new bridge

This was take from a bridge in Sturdee Park, Loganlea. I used to live just across the road from this park and this bridge was built long after I had moved.

The park is very well looked after and has had other upgrades including - cameras, new play equipment and some art work which I will show later.

More choice

Over twenty years ago there wasn't much in this area. Now everything is coming here. With the major University and other schools here, you could complete your whole education at places 5 minutes drive from each other. The Gold Coast fast train and the Air Train (that goes to the airport) stops here and a few years ago we finally got a McDonalds.

Now we get variety as a couple of weeks ago we got a Red Rooster restaurant. Now I have a choice if I am too tired to cook dinner and want fast food. Notice the sign to the left that says "Baguettes to go".

Fire truck

This is our normal fire truck (or fire engine) that was on display (there wasn't any fire).

Recently the lights on the top of the truck changed from red only to Red and Blue. This is so all our emergency vehicles (including the police which were the only ones with the red and blue lights) look the same when there lights are flashing and they are coming up behind your car.

It was common for people not to get out of the way of just the red lights, but when they see the red and blue, which they think are police, they get out of the way.

Griffith University

Griffith University, Logan Campus opened in February 1998 giving Logan City a major University.

I tried to get the building in the background, but there were too many trees in the way so I took a photo a bit off the side to get all the words in.

Click here to see a photo near opening day that shows the photo I wanted. More from here later on.

Fence art

We have quite a lot of fence art and I spotted this while out picture hunting.

Neighbourhood activities

This was a "getting to know your neighbours" event. Although I didn't get to meet anyone (too shy and taking photos here was already out of my comfort zone), it looked like quite a few people were having fun.

The kids on the right were kicking around a football.

Trucked water

Even though we have received quite a bit of water lately, we still have water restrictions. Many houses don't receive town water and when it doesn't rain, they have to buy water that is delivered in thes trucks.

A picture of a picture

I spotted this billboard on my way home from work.

It says "Logan: a great place for nature" and this is beside a busy motorway.

I will have to find out where they took this photo.

This is a court yard in the High School I went to 16 years ago at Loganlea.

It hasn't changed much since then. I guess I haven't changed much since then as well.

Big Storm - 1 month anniversary

The theme of this photo goes back to my first post when I went down to see the old road flooded during the constant rain. We had a strong storm that had hail and knocked out power to many houses. It was short and this is the leading edge of the storm.

I then had to get inside as it started raining.

This is my one month anniversary!

Bridge by a lake

This is a photo from a local park.

I like the reflected image in the water.

Kingston Pigeon Club

Saw these guys chatting outside the Kingston Pigeon Club. They were jesturing with their hands forming box shapes to describe something, as though to say "The Pigeon was this big...". I wonder what they really talk about?

I was very nervous taking this picture and had to park a distance away and use zoom. Nice car though.

Petrol price

Just thought I would post a picture of our petrol station. On the right is the petrol (Unleaded) cost per litre (0.26US Gallons, 0.22UK Gallons) which is AUS$1.14.9

Our new Mayor for Logan City is Graham Able.

Time to cast your vote

I had to vote today for the new Lord Mayor of Logan City. Out the front (of my old high school) they hand out leaflets for each candidate to show you how to vote.
