Logan Daily Photo

This blog is to show daily photos of Logan City. This City is located just south of Brisbane City in Queensland, Australia. Logan is Queensland's third largest city and one that is young, dynamic and booming with growth. Home to 500 parks, the beautiful Logan River, local art galleries and a world class University.

A perch up high

Looks like a comfortable resting place for some of the bird population here.

Food for the animals

This is two silos that hold grain for cattle. This livestock feed company has been here for as long as I can remember. I will post a close up of the top section tomorrow.

Local News - Young people in the Marsden area have a chance to try a range of new sports in a new series of activities at the Marsden High School oval each month, starting this Friday after school.

Buddhist Temple

This is a new buddhist temple. Part of it would get constructed then there would be a long delay till the next part started. As one of these delays was between half the roof tiles getting put on, I can only presume they must have kept raising funds as it was constructed.

When I finally chose to photograph this temple, they had just put down these mounds of dirt.

Farm house - sort of

This house hasn't changed for as long as I can remember (I've lived here 32 years). It sits on a very large area of land big enough to have around 30 cows grazing.

It isn't a traditional farm house, I think, but with all the old stuff out the back and the cows always around, it's pretty close.

Lone house

The lone white house over to the right is sitting on a large area of land. Out here in the suburbs we still have many houses with this much land and more.

Major shopping centre

This is one of our largest shopping centres, the Logan Hyperdome at Loganholme.

This is a recent extension to the shopping centre (or mall) and until I took the photo, I didn't know there was those coloured tips to the right.

Big Hill

We have a big hill that is our bit of San Francisco in Logan.

If you have a small car, you need a good run up or you struggle up it.

I think they want you to go eat some Indian food instead of trying???

Art at T.A.F.E.

This is one of the entrances into the buildings of Technical And Further Education (T.A.F.E.) at Loganlea. This is like college or university just a little different. For example, they don't have Majors or Minors.

The artwork is recent and I see from it a bridge to the tree of knowledge that will take you on your road to your future. What do you think?

Where are they?

I have driven down this road nearly every work day for over 4 years and I have never seen a Kangaroo along the whole stretch of the road.

A raven/crow for Midnitebara & lisi

Here is a crow (or raven) that I spotted at a park.

If you click on the picture, and you look at its eyes, it looks like I caught it by surprise. Another time I will get a picture of a better looking crow.

Doorway to the World

This is the view from my front door. I would sometimes just lay on the couch and stare outside.

I couldn't upload a pic earlier but now it is working. These birds are called "Ibis". They are a pest and were mostly chased away from the Gold Coast and Brisbane, right into Logan and wherever else they could move to. They can sometimes get aggressive over food.

The Big Pot Plant

Around Queensland we have a lot of BIG things which include, The Big Pineapple, The Big Cow, The Big Kart Track, The Big Lawnmower etc.

Here in Logan we have the Big Pot Plant at Forestdale and I drive past this everyday to and from work.

St. Patrick's Day

The green of the Irish. Today is St. Patrick's day and I took this oppertunity to photograph Dooley's hotel at Meadowbrook all lit up in green. The red, white and blue reflecting in the window is the new Red Rooster restaurant sign.

The luck of the Irish to you all.

I still hope to visit it one day.

Things are looking up

Thought I would practice some more artistic photo's. This is looking up into a tiger tree (because of the patterns on the bark) and I only remember this tree as being small and then it just got huge one day. Must have turned my back.

Birds at Sunset

This was taken from my front yard.

So peaceful.

Metal Kookaburra

The laughing Kookaburra. 2 of them are looking like they are ready to break out into song.

I like it how seats are used for the leaves as a tree are seats for the birds.

Unwanted metal tree

This is a tree sculpture by Christopher Trotter titled "Brachychiton Rupestris" and represents various aspects of Logan City and its characters.

The residents near where this was put complained about it (it cost AU$30000 - 18159 Europe Euro) and so it was moved to the Logan City Art Gallery. I have never been inside. I will post a close up photo of the top tomorrow as it is interesting in its own right.

World Peace

Near Kingston station, there are several paintings like this on the side of an overpass. Most people passing this area wouldn't even know it was there.

Good message though.

Logan City Council

Just thought I would show something that had the word "Logan" in it. This is our council building where the city is run from.

Notice the roof over the entrance. It is only supported by posts at the rear and has no external support at the end.

Surburban Train

While I was out photographing, I got stopped at this train intersection. I thought I would have a go at a moving object photo and got the desired effect.

This is our local train and before I got a car it was my main means of transport. Takes 45 minutes to get from my local station into Brisbane Central Station.

Pictures to mark the way to Olympic glory

When the Olympic torch was making its way through Queensland and then onto Sydney, on all the power poles along its journey, they painted pictures on them.

I got to see the torch when it went through Beenleigh.

Like a bridge over troubled waters

Thanks to everyone who posted a comment to my photos. One in particular caught my attention "Pictures in the rain are interesting too, it is part of the city!"

So even though I can't take the photos I want just yet, I grabbed my camera and headed down to a place I used to go as a child. There is a new bridge that goes over any flood water (off to the right) but years ago, we used to always get cut off as the roads flood and the majority of school kids couldn't get to Loganlea State High School.

So we would head down to the road on our bikes and stand in the flowing water to let the drivers know how high the water was. As you can see to the left that if the car gets pushed off it goes in the river. This is all a bikeway now but you can still see the double white lines disappear under the water and they have left part of the old road and then made paths at either end for bikes. So yes, Pictures in the rain are interesting too. Thank you.

Morning has broken

This one I think speaks for itself. This is an old photo and I waited about an hour in the dark then some more time in the light of morning before the sun peaked out of the clouds.

I'm off now to take a photo or two before it rains again. It has been overcast for about 5 days now and I am waiting for the sunshine to show off our usually brillant weather.

Waiting for the rain to end

The day after I decided to start this blog, it started raining continuously.

We have been in a drought for years and whatever rain we get would be quick and violent. Now the rain seems to be set in for a day or two more.

Until then I will start posting old photos that I have to get this going.

This photo is from a park in Browns Plains. I was trying out the zoom function of my camera and took a photo of the power line tower at the edge of this park.
